Temple University's North Philadelphia Workforce Initiative issearchingfor a Literacy Instructor I.Job Summary:The WELL part-time Literacy Instructor I will provide basic adult education and literacy instruction in a workforce context to participants in the WELL Program, housed under the TU-Lenfest Center for Community Workforce Partnerships (TU-LCCWP), on main campus, virtually or in an off-site location within the Philadelphia community, as assigned.WELL Literacy instructors are expected to be flexible regarding work hours and instructional content. Candidates must be knowledgeable of adult learning/educational principles and practices, should be able to demonstrate the ability to develop lesson plans, teach, motivate, and relate positively to adult learners; learn and utilize educational tools, websites, instructional resources and technologies effectively; successfully access and apply PA educational standards for College and Career Readiness (CCRS) and Common Core Standards (CCS); be knowledgeable of Philadelphia Dept. of Education (PDE) instructional guidelines for adult education and literacy. This position reports to the WELL Program Manager.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Education, TESOL, or related field and at least six months of experience working with academically challenged adult populations. Experience teaching ESL, Reading, Social Studies Science or Math classes. Math instructors teaching high school level mathematics (level E of the CCRS) must have secondary math teaching certification or a bachelor's degree or higher that ensures knowledge of all content required in the Subject Specific Program Guidelines for PA Mathematics 7-12 certification. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for all instructional positions.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred:

Familiarity with state and local adult education policies and resources.

Familiarity with workforce readiness and digital literacy, and instructional resources.

Knowledgeable of PA Dept. of Education data systems.

Required Skills & Abilities:

The Literacy Instructor is expected to work at a computer terminal and stand for extended periods of time. Repeated contact with the public is expected throughout each day. This individual must be able to communicate in person, by phone and via electronic communication. The job may require travel to different sites in Philadelphia. The Literacy Instructor must be willing to travel by foot, on public transportation or use his/her car (travel reimbursement is available from main campus).

This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
