The Polysomnographic Technologist performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Team Leader (RPSGT) and/or Medical Director. The technologist will assist with comprehensive evaluation (scoring), diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education.

Responsibilities:

Explains procedures, goals, treatment plan and orients patient to the sleep center. Verifies physician’s prescription for appropriate testing.Demonstrates the knowledge of neuro-anatomy and physiology, measures accurately and applies electrodes in a timely manner in accordance to laboratory standards, and ensures electrode impedance meet laboratory standards.Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values and “lights on” procedures to verify the integrity of collected dataResponsible for returning calls and emails from patients, co-workers and vendors in a timely manner and attending meetings as requestedPerforms any special polysomnographic testing as ordered. Records study and makes initial interpretation of results.Maintains files or results in accordance with medical record retention standardsRecords sleep/wake stages, clinical event (respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals etc.), by the departmental established guidelines of the American Academy of Sleep.Performs routine equipment and maintenance care. Assists with inventory evaluationDocument routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedures and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.Maintain certifications and compliance with other training requirements

Credentials:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (Required)

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist - Please note this certification requires 50 continuing education credits (CEUs) every five years to maintain registry.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)

Education Specialization: Equivalent Experience: And 0-1 years 6 months experience required as a current Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT), hospital setting preferred

Associate of Arts or Science

Education Specialization: Business, Allied Health or related field. Equivalent Experience:
