POSITION SUMMARY:
The Custodial Support position is a full-time position working directly with the Facilities Manager to clean, organize, and maintain Broad Street Love’s facility needs. This position plays a vital role in ensuring that our facility remains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all and staff. This staff member will be proactive, and capable of working independently and performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks to uphold the highest standards of hygiene and safety. This position may work directly with the guests of Broad Street Love who are experiencing impacts of deep poverty, trauma, symptoms of untreated mental illness, substance abuse disorder and general marginalization.
Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning and Maintenance:
- Restroom Cleaning
-Clean and sanitize all toilets and urinals
-Clean and disinfect sinks, countertops, toilet paper dispensers, walls and mirrors
-Replenish restroom supplies such as toilet paper and soap
-Sweep and mop restroom floors to ensure they are clean and dry
-Remove all dirt, dust, debris, and trash from restrooms
Floor Maintenance
-Sweep and mop all floors in common areas, stairwells, hallways and restrooms
-Vacuum carpeted floors in hallways and common areas
-Ensure all floors are free from dirt, debris, and spills throughout the day
-Remove all dirt and debris from walkways, stairwells, and entryways
General Cleaning
-Empty trash receptacles and replace liners and make sure trash is disposed of properly and areas are kept tidy
-Clean and wipe down all chairs, table surfaces, including legs and armrests
-Perform high and low dusting to remove dust from surfaces including desks, shelves, ledges, pipes, windows, stairwells, walls, safety materials, baseboards, and throughout the building daily
-Regularly polish and maintain the appearance of all wooden furniture, ensuring it remains clean, shiny, and free of scratches and smudges.
-Clean and sanitize frequently touched surfaces, doorknobs, light switches, elevator buttons, handrails, etc.
-Wipe and clean window glass inside and outside of doors/windows and handles
-Regular cleaning, sanitizing, and maintenance of all water coolers within the facility and the surrounding area
-Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the staff lounge, including wiping down tables and countertops, cleaning appliances, and emptying trash
Facility Upkeep:
-Ensure that all areas of the facility are properly maintained, including but not limited to,
monitoring and replenishing cleaning supplies, emptying trash receptacles, managing recycling
maintaining the appearance of outside the building such as:
sweep, shovel, rinse, rake all trash, debris, or snow around the immediate building and dumpsters including alleyways/sidewalk and Watts Street area.
power washing the dumpsters and surrounding areas (ie: walls, sidewalk, street/alleyway)
-Maintain accurate records of cleaning schedules, maintenance activities, and any issues encountered or resolved.
Event Support:
- Assist in setting up and breaking down space for events, meetings, and in- services including arranging furniture, equipment, and decorations as needed
Minor Repairs:
- Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and reporting any larger maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for staff and visitors. Report any safety hazards or maintenance needs promptly to the Facilities Manager
Special Projects:
- Participate in special cleaning projects, such as deep cleaning, floor care, Philadelphia City Emergency Procedures openings, emergencies, and seasonal maintenance tasks as directed by the Facilities Manager or Chief of Staff
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Experience: Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience working with communities that are impacted by deep poverty, trauma severe symptoms of mental illness and/or substance use, and marginalization
Skills: Ability to operate cleaning equipment and perform basic maintenance tasks. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and guests
- Ability to be affirming to the identity of all individuals
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service to employees and guests, addressing any concerns or questions related to the building
Dependability: Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic and the ability to work independently
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move objects (25- 50 lbs), stand and walk, bend, and lift for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents
WORK SCHEDULE
This is a part time position with a typical work schedule of 30 hours per week from 10:00am- 4:00pm. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, and holidays as needed to support the events and special projects is required.

Hours: Full Time 30 hours/week
Compensation: $17.5/hour
