Position Summary

The Community Outreach Worker is responsible for providing effective outreach to the general public, with a focus on person-centered services and face-to-face interaction. The Community Outreach Worker collaborates with various participant stakeholders within and outside of the Why Not Prosper program to ensure all women encountered are provided opportunities for support in a fair and holistic manner.

Essential Duties, Skillsets and Functions

Coordinating programs with other community organizations and government agencies.

Conducting outreach to community members who are at risk and in need.

Referring community members to other agencies for additional services that they may need.

Helping individuals access services such as ID’s , temporary housing, legal aid, and medical care.

Assisting with basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.

Linking the community members with various opportunities, such as mentorship or educational programs.

Supporting community members in their efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.

Helping community members navigate the legal and criminal justice system.

Creating public awareness of issues related to women, criminal justice, violence or other community problems.

Qualifications include but not limited to:

Experience with and understanding of the needs unique to the female-adult re-entry population, specifically addressing solutions to the barriers toward community integration, including but not limited to recovery supports, health, family reunification, employment, etc.;

Ability to develop creative, goal-oriented, time-limited goal plans that address a multitude of societal barriers, focusing on achieving success;

Proficient skills in the areas of decision-making, resident engagement, crisis management, community outreach and advocacy;

Knowledge of computer programs to use database systems, as well as Microsoft Excel and Word and additional WNP tracking systems;

Excellent written/documentation skills;

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a Multidisciplinary Team, providing services in coordination with partner agencies;

Satisfactory completion of a degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice or equivalent, along with 3 years of experience performing community outreach;

Must have an operable vehicle, valid drivers license and an acceptable driving record as determined by criteria established by the WNP insurance carrier and policy.
