This is a used bookstore in North Philly that needs extra help. We need someone who knows something about old books-If you worked at a bookstore that's great, but I'm looking for someone who has spent a lot of time at library sales, thrift stores, country auctions, or even dumpster diving and has been able to build up a pretty nice collection. Maybe send a picture of your bookcase. And if you have some good stories about striking gold. We deal in a lot of estates and we have to sort through and price huge amounts of books all the time. I'm including a few pictures to show what we deal with. If you don't have a feel for this kind of stuff, you'll be completely lost. You don't have to know everything about everything, but for instance, I don't know snything about Math, but I can tell a really mind blowing theory when I see it. You have to be able to spot quality in a box of junk. PErsonally, I think scanning items with your phone is cheating-and don't rely on it. I believe in the human touch. Oh, and if you believe in this stuff, the books are haunted a lot of times. But it's ok, the spirits are peaceful because we are taking care of their books.
There is all kinds of jobs you either have to know or learn adequately-alphebitizing, shelving, sign lettering, shelf buiilding, postering. The more you learn, the more hours you get, But you have to be ready to learn different thingsbut eventually the main job will be pricing and sorting books. And finally, boxes of books are heavy, and often packed too heavy. Carrying them up and down stairs is part of the job.
