How well do you know yourself?
Answer these questions honestly (in your mind):
Do you love dealing with clients? Really? (If the answer is, I dont have clients, then this job probably is not for you.)
Do you feel a sense of accomplishment when you help a client resolve an issue or achieve their goals?
Are you patient (or can you successfully feign patience) with end users who sometimes arent the brightest star in the sky?
When you have cleared your task list before the end of the day, do you typically seek a new work task to get done (after a reasonable break, of course)? Or do you veg out on gaming and Star Wars web sites?
Are you good at prioritizing tasks to meet your clients goals?
Do you love being part of a team with a common goal? Or are you more comfortable as a lone ranger?
Do you care whether your title sounds better than your co-workers titles?
Are you annoyed when a client calls at 4:45 pm and needs some help? Do you help them?
When you are on call, do you dutifully answer the phone at 2:47 a.m. and do whatever it takes to help a clients bookkeeper remotely access Quickbooks to prepare for her meeting with the boss the next morning?
When a new technical product is launched, do you learn about it from your customers? Are you eager to get your hands on it? Do you test it in your home lab?
Do you have a home lab?
Do you enjoy your work enough that you sometimes work at home during off-hours when things need to get done, without being asked?
And, most importantly, are you curious about what kind of crazy MSP would post a job description like this?
If you answered correctly on the great majority of these questions, please send us your resume. There is no answer key. The right person for this job will know what the right answers are.
And remember the ask: answer the above questions honestly in your mind. If you cant be honest with yourself, we doubt you can be honest with us. Please apply elsewhere.
Your resume should not read like a catalog of hardware and software titles. If you send us 3 pages of technical lists, we wont be reading it.
But if:
You have figured out why the answers to these questions are as important as your technical skills;
You answered most of them correctly;
You have MSP experience and want to work for a fun, growing MSP;
AND you have strong technical skills in Windows Server admin, firewalls, desktops, laptops, etc.;
then you may be a good fit for our company.
