The Spirit Media Group is looking for a staff reporter.
What you will do:
Report on news in our coverage area which includes DE County; and
West/Southwest Philadelphia.
Provide coverage of events and breaking news occurring in and around the
coverage area and produce a report/story on what you covered in a timely
manner. Photography skills are a huge plus.
Versatility is a must, as stories will cover a variety of topics
Along with producing stories that are assigned, the reporter should also be able
to pitch story ideas on a regular basis
Research and develop stories to the utmost accuracy
Cultivate sources both in person and via social media
Maintain communication with a supervising editor
Understand and use company-provided hardware, software and cloud-based
equipment and systems for company business and tasks
Contribute to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration with our small
team of journalists
What you will bring:
Journalism experience or the willingness to learn, knowledge and the ability to
quickly compile accurate reporting on a variety of topics. Spelling and grammar
skills required
Experience working with various technologies for the position including PC
laptops, digital cameras and recording equipment
Good people skills are necessary for conducting interviews with sources
A deep interest in (and understanding of) the workings of local government (city
and county)
The ability to produce clean copy under tight deadlines is a must
Experience covering sporting events is a plus
Bachelor's degree preferred; experience in a professional journalism newsroom
preferred
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
Compensation:
The right candidate will receive a competitive salary. Pay is based on several
factors including but not limited to education, work experience, time in role,
certifications, etc.
