Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring an Audiology Assistant to work with the newborn population at Magee Women's Hospital.The Audiology Assistant, under the direction of an Audiologist, and in accordance with established policies and procedures, provides support to department clinicians. They use a variety of audiometric technical equipment and work with patients and families while assisting with testing and/or newborn infant hearing screening. They will also complete clerical duties associated with department function.Responsibilities:
Assist in patient audiometric testing and in patient education
Screen newborns to access level of hearing acuity using technical audiometric equipment.
Recognize need to postpone screening and request medical assistance for newborn as necessary.
Maintain a high degree of cleanliness and order within clinic, testing areas and equipment.
Demonstrate cost effective use of human and material resources and report supply and material shortages to manager/director.
Relay screening results to parents.
Retrieve test results and record data according to department standards.
Consult with audiologist or manager if there are equipment problems or other issues.
Complete forms and other paperwork and conducts other miscellaneous clerical duties as needed.
All other duties as assigned by manager.
Perform functions that require using audiometric technical equipment.
Ensure patient safety through contacting a physician, either through the ENT services or ER, of any occurrence or incident relating to patient care.
Document results according to the prospective hospital's procedures.
Participate in quality assurance, confidentiality and compliance activities.
High School diploma required.
1 year experience working with children OR junior/senior level undergraduate student, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
BS in health related field preferred.
Analytical ability to understand testing equipment and procedures.
Cognitive ability to think clearly and accurately to assist with pediatric patient testing.
Communication skills needed to work effectively with patients, parents, staff members and supervisor.
Audio and visual acuity for observation of test analysis.
Interpersonal skills necessary to frequently interact with patients of various developmental levels and family members in periods of emotional stress.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Basic computer skills. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
Act 33 with renewal
Act 34 with renewal
Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
