Director - Genetics/Genomic LabPlan, organize, direct, and evaluate the molecular, genetic and genomic laboratory Service Line activities for multiple locations to ensure the achievement of system-wide goals that are consistent with University of Pittsburgh strategic plan. Responsible for budgeting, planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of Laboratory Service Line personnel engaged in providing clinical genetic and genomic services for the purpose of delivery of quality patient care in collaboration with Senior Leadership and respective Medical Directors.In conjunction with service line leadership, develops and executes service center plans for the provision of molecular, genetic and genomic services that are consistent with and incorporated into the University of Pittsburgh overall strategic plan. Ensures provision of exemplary patient care; validates that care is provided according to current standards of practice. Ensures patient satisfaction and implements process improvement measures to correct perceived inefficiencies in care and service. Ensures proper certification/licensure of all system molecular genetic and genomic laboratories. Oversee all related regulatory agency inspections. Formulates policies and procedures on behalf of Senior Leadership/Medical Director of Laboratories and secures appropriate approvals; ensures adherence to all policies and procedures. Provides direct supervision to service center molecular, genetic and genomic site management. Collaborates with site operational leadership to ensure transparency and awareness related to site operations. Disseminates information to management and staff to ensure timely and appropriate communication throughout service center. Effectively lives and communicates the mission, vision and values of University of Pittsburgh; conveys a positive approach in communicating management decisions; engages staff in the development and support of a departmental philosophy and goals consistent with those of the organization. Prepares annual operating and capital budgets for all molecular, genetic and genomic laboratory locations with attention to department and organizational goals; establishes standards of performance and economic constraints; demonstrates creativity and initiative and cost containment and operational effectiveness activities. Develops, secures approval of and administers departmental budgets which provide for the attainment of agreed upon goals in accordance with approved plans; assists Managers in developing division budgets; monitors budgets and approves expenditures. Analyzes and controls financial performance of molecular, genetic and genomic laboratory services to ensure optimal efficiency and resource utilization within defined fiscal parameters relative to testing volume. Demonstrates sound judgment in the planning, allocation and/or authorization of budgeted funds for clinical and program needs. Coordinate with Supply Chain the process of instrument selection and the management of service and reagent contracts. Initiates and promotes communication to affect coordinated integration of clinical support services required for comprehensive, interdisciplinary patient care. Enhances administrative efficiencies through effective use of verbal and written communication. Demonstrates sound negotiating skills. Delegates authority and accountability as appropriate to laboratory leadership for clinical practice in patient care decisions consistent with professional standards in university policies. Facilitates staff involvement in established departmental program, e.g. quality improvement, patient/professional education and new initiatives.Encourages education/teaching/research endeavors consistent with University of Pittsburgh mission. Formulates strategies for professional advancement and retention; supports the clinical advancement program and identifies opportunities for development appropriate to the level of individ al competencies; fosters an environment conducive to innovation and progressive learning. Recruits and develops a quality staff that meets the values of University of Pittsburgh; articulates standards of performance that support patient expectations, University of Pittsburgh policies/procedures and regulatory agency requirements. Enforces progressive disciplinary action appropriately; utilizes timely performance appraisals to provide formal feedback and as a basis for individual goal development. Develops plans for success FORMAL EDUCATION: Required: A Bachelor\'s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety or related field Preferred: Advanced degrees in Safety, Occupational Health, Engineering and Technical Fields are preferred. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE: Required: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without needing sponsorship now or in the future for employment work visa status At least 12 years of Engineering and/or Environmental Health & Safety experience Demonstrated Process Safety Management Experience and Success Previous supervisory experience Previous multi-site operational experience Previous experience in a manufacturing environment Preferred: 15+ years\' experience preferred Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, and /or CIH Previous experience and success in third-party certification frameworks (ISO, Responsible Care, OSHA VPP etc.) Experience with Continuous Improvement processes/techniques such as Six Sigma, Lean, Transactional Lean or Root Cause Analysis Previous experience with PSM (Process Safety Management) Travel Up to 40%
