TherapistThe Renal-Electrolyte Division at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking an individual with an education, training, and licensure in clinical psychology, social work, or counseling. The candidate may hold a Master's degree or Ph.D. and experience working in a medical setting and/or clinical research protocols is preferred. The primary responsibilities will include providing evaluation and treatment to patients in an ongoing NIH-funded randomized controlled trial testing the implementation of a stepped collaborative care intervention in multiple dialysis clinics in multiple states. The candidate will also have the opportunity to assist with ongoing manuscript preparation and grants.Responsibilities will include evaluation and treatment of patients with end stage kidney disease who are receiving dialysis. Additional responsibilities include the management of intakes and progress notes, and communication with health care team. The therapist may need to work with patients and teams across time zones, and flexibility in providing time availability will be essential. The delivery of the stepped collaborative care intervention will be by telephone or telemedicine. The organizational impact of the position will be significant with regard to research and the operation of the work group as well as patient care. The Therapist's position consists of broad responsibilities requiring application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions including the comorbid factors including a diagnosis of multiple medical conditions, treatment side effects, and psychiatric symptoms. Some problems may require significant analysis and judgement and solutions may include adapting existing practice to new systems. The Therapist will interact with staff inside and outside the University and may include interpreting, explaining, issues and assistance with problems solving. The Therapist will not likely work with any financial aspects of the project.Job SummaryProvides targeted, tiered psychological supports and related assessments, consultations, and intervention services and uses results to guide tiered supports and interventions. Conducts small group and individualized therapeutic and social skills interventions and oversees interagency meetings for support services and/or next steps. Facilitates professional development and education, writes annual program reports, designs data collection methods to track progress and impact, and participates in research and interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration.Essential FunctionsProviding timely evaluation and treatment to patients and adhering to the research protocol. The contact with patients will phone or telemedicine visits. Evaluation of suicidal ideation and rarely crisis intervention. Assist with ongoing administrative aspects of the study including documentation of the clinical contact intake and progress notes and communication with the research team regarding the patient. The therapist may be asked to assist with the research or clinical team's responsibilities occasionally.
