[FEU]This position can be located in Akron, OH or Greensburg or Reading, PA.About the OpportunityThe job of Substation Engineering Standards Supervisor requires an individual to be self-directed with a strong ability to oversee the creation and maintenance of engineering standards and specifications used to produce designs, order equipment, and construct FirstEnergy substation facilities. This position will oversee a staff of engineers, drafters, designers, both internal and external, and engage in a wide variety of engineering activities to support standard designs that are used to efficiently estimate, design, and construct FirstEnergy substations. This position will report on the progress of assigned tasks and advise of any issues that could impair the successful completion of the task on a proactive basis. This position will also provide technical support to Substation and Transmission personnel, Real Estate, Project Management and Construction crews verifying that no safety standards are compromised and confirming accuracy of all standard work products.Responsibilities include:
Overseeing the creation of standard substation engineering designs for use by internal and external staff. Possible tasks include, but are not limited to, physical design of steel structures, foundations, clearances, layout drawings, grounding, oil containment, bus design and configuration, etc.
Oversight in preparing bills-of-material for the development of material lists to support standard designs, including the creation and maintenance of compatible units (CU's) for material forecasting and estimating.
Ensuring designs support a safe environment for transmission lines and substations personnel, contractors, and the public by incorporating safety by design principles.
Ensuring standards and equipment specifications are up to date and accurate, reviewing against industry standards and best practices.
Reviewing existing materials, components, and design standards for process improvement and cost savings.
Analyzing engineering, construction, and maintenance feedback related to standard designs, equipment, etc., and developing appropriate solutions and alternate design options.
Reviewing manufacturer drawings for compliance with specifications.
Conducting design reviews, substation audits, and test witnessing at manufacturer’s facilities as necessary.
Preparing and delivering training to support knowledge transfer between both internal and external design staff.
Facilitate and support employee growth through means of learning opportunities to assist in their understanding of engineering and construction practices.
Collaboration with internal engineering, external engineering consultants, vendors, equipment manufacturers, and physical contractors.
Researching and exploring new technologies that will effectively enable work processes to be automated - increasing efficiencies while decreasing the risk of human error.
Supporting and sustaining FirstEnergy as a high performing organization by practicing and demonstrating FirstEnergy core values and behaviors.
Participate in industry meetings to confirm FirstEnergy has a voice in the direction of industry (i.e. AACE, IEEE, EPRI, etc.).
Qualifications include:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field; with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience required. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years of direct, relevant experience will be considered.
Relevant experience includes experience in design engineering, project development, portfolio development, project management, and/or system operations and maintenance is preferred.
A professional engineering license is preferred but not required.

Effective supervisory practices, effective planning and budgeting is preferred.
Previous supervisory experience is preferred but not required.
Demonstrated experience in planning, designing, and/or construction of transmission and substation projects to reinforce compliance of FirstEnergy engineering practices and standards.
Must be able to lead multiple teams to coordinate a large quantity of projects simultaneously
Must be able to work effectively under the pressure of deadlines, unexpected developments, changes in project scope, budget constraints, and unforeseen problems
Must have strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain successful working relationships with employees, surrounding departments, and external partners.
Must embrace a safety culture and maintain a safe work environment for co-workers and the public.
Must be self-directed and not dependent on detailed instruction from others.
Ability to coach, counsel, and develop employees.
Must be able to communicate effectively with good verbal skills and writing skills, providing comprehensive project status reports, clear and concise correspondence, and accurate information.
Must possess strong organizational, computer, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of applicable computer programs to fulfill job duties; include but not limited to Microsoft Office/SharePoint, AutoCAD, PLS-CADD, and PowerBI. OPPM, Unifier, Primavera, EcoSys, SAP, CREWS and Cascade a plus but not a requirement.
Ability to support numerous locations, must be willing to travel throughout the service area and to manufacturer locations, and to work extra and irregular hours.
Strong technical writing skills for preparing material, service, and equipment specifications.
