Weston & Sampson is looking for an Urban Forestry/Climate Resiliency specialist to be based out of one of our New England office locations. The ideal candidate will have 2 - 10+ years of experience in environmental science specializing in urban forestry. What you’ll do:
Provide comprehensive resilient stormwater and urban forest planning and design services to municipal clients
Assist project managers with the preparation of engineering studies, concept designs, and master planning reports
Visit job sites to perform project tasks including field tests, data gathering, field inspections, surveying and construction observation
Attend public engagement events and help educate the public about the important role that nature-based solutions play in climate resilience
Office work may include spatial data analysis, engineering design, data tabulation, tree / landscape planting plans, and will also prepare reports and proposals
Some travel may be required.
What you will bring:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, landscape architecture, forestry, or similar degree.
Arborist’s certification or ability to acquire preferred.
2 to 10 years of relevant experience working with municipal clients in urban forestry and climate resilience roles, Preferred experience includes:
Urban forest master planning and management planning
Species selection
Soil analysis
Climate impacts
Climate resilience engineering and planning
Flood and urban heat island mitigation using nature-based solutions
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational/time management skills
Strong initiative and desire to work in the climate resilience and urban forest space
Valid driver’s license is required
Experience with ArcGIS Pro software suite preferred
Based in New England.
