Position Summary: Conducts nocturnal and diurnal sleep studies to include monitoring of EEG, EOG, EKG, EMG, Nasal and oral ventilation, chest excursion, and pulse oximetry. Incumbent may perform special procedures including CPAP and BiPAP titrations. Assists in scoring sleep studies interpreting polygraphic recordings. Tests are performed on children, adults, and geriatric patients. Position may involve travel to various host facilities within the twin tiers. Position may also require “call coverage” for Neurodiagnostics EEG.Education, License & Cert:
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) required within 18 months of hire.
Experience:
One year of clinical experience preferred.
Must possess the ability to operate and troubleshoot diagnostic equipment.
Essential Functions:
Maintains the values of Guthrie, Robert Packer Hospital, and the mobile sleep department.
Applies EEG electrodes utilizing the standard 10‐20 system.
Applies monitoring devices for respiration, muscle tone, eye movement, oximetry, EKG, and other physiological functions.
Calibrates, adjusts, and troubleshoots all laboratory equipment.
Produces artifact‐free polysomnographic data to standard criteria.
Scores sleep stages, arousals, PLMS, respiratory events, and other physiological data to established standards.
Knowledge in PC operations related to, but not limited to, the operation of equipment, attaching interfaces, acquisition, storage and retrieval of data.
Monitors patient response to CPAP while establishing optimum pressures necessary to maintain an open airway.
Maintains current CPR certification and performs CPR as needed.
Reviews current literature for sleep disorders, and keeps current on new techniques and advances in the field.
Other Duties:
Keeps current log book of equipment repairs and needed supplies.
Keeps equipment in clean, operating condition.
Files records, completes and forwards appropriate billing information.
Assists in the orientation of new employees.
Maintains positive relationships with host institutions.
Uses resources responsibly.
Other duties as assigned and required.
May be required to take call for EEG department as needed.
May be required to travel to others locations to do sleep studies.
