Legal Counselor Advocate

Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Counselor Advocate in our Legal Program. The successful candidate will provide crucial crisis intervention and advocacy services to victims of domestic and sexual violence. This position involves offering support, guidance, and resources to empower survivors and facilitate their journey toward safety and healing.Key Responsibilities:Crisis Intervention Services:

Provide crisis intervention, individual advocacy, systems advocacy, referrals, and accompaniment for victims.

Establish and facilitate structured and peer group services for victims and their significant others.

Complete intake, safety/services planning, assessments, surveys, ESG documentation, and ETO Touchpoints.

Expand service availability to include weekend and early evening hours to remove barriers to access.

Assist victims with preparation of legal petitions and provide accompaniment to hearings.

Participate in case management meetings to review client progress.

Provide VCAP education, information, and assistance with paperwork.

Legal Advocacy Services:

Interview and educate victims on available options.

Assist with preparation of legal petitions and provide court accompaniment.

Conduct follow-up and preparation for navigating the criminal justice system.

Conduct safety planning and emergency housing eligibility assessments.

Provide regular case status updates and referrals as needed.

Check court docket daily for hearing changes and connect victims to legal resources.

PFAD System:

Assist in training criminal justice allies and law enforcement professionals on accessing the PFAD system.

Review and input data into the PFAD system under supervisor guidance.

Cross Training and Agency Integration:

Actively participate in cross-training initiatives and gain proficiency in other agency programs.

Collaborate with colleagues from different programs to provide holistic victim support.

Prepare to support other agency programs as needed.

Outreach and Advocacy:

Conduct community education and participate in events.

Provide in-service/training seminars for allied professionals.

Advocate for systemic change with stakeholders.

Represent the agency on assigned committees and coalitions.

Assist with donation collection and segregation.

Other Responsibilities:

Complete all reporting and documentation accurately and timely.

Attend agency events, staff meetings, and training sessions as directed.

Travel as required to serve victims.

Represent the agency positively to the public and professional community.

Complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a helping field required.

Prior experience working with people in a helping capacity preferred.

Sensitivity to working with victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Experience working with diverse groups and populations.

Ability to work non-traditional hours.

Positive commitment to agency mission and core values.

Act 33/34 eligible; FBI clearance required.

Proficient in computer use.

Possess a valid driver's license, insurance, and access to a vehicle.
