Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The PSU Operational Technology a division of the Office of Physical Plant, is seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Network System Specialist within our Facility Automation Department.
The following is a list of duties and responsibilities but are not all-inclusive:
Plan, develop, and troubleshoot network configurations; oversee network equipment and security devices
Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot security devices; manage firewall rules
Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex network and security issues
Monitor network performance to evaluate efficient operation and prevent network issues
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency by leveraging scripting, automation, or other process improvements
Research, identify, and recommend new or improved network solutions and technology
Assist Systems Design Specialists in the development and testing of current and future service improvements
Manage, research, and resolve complex user escalation incidents
Collaborate and communicate with unit and university peers to identify technology requirements and solutions
Interface with University organizations to resolve service-related issues
Collaborate with vendors on the implementation of upgrades and/or escalate and troubleshoot complex network issues or problems
Assist with developing processes and procedures to operate and manage network efficiency
Create and maintain documentation for preventative maintenance and disaster recovery
Create and maintain accurate network topology documentation and knowledge base articles
Mentor and provide technical guidance to staff and teams
May develop and provide training to staff
May lead and oversee departmental projects and provide input and guidance to team
Typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus four (4) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
The Facility Automation Services department has a significant impact on all areas of the University.
The Network Specialist must advocate for safety by understanding and adhering to all Physical Plant Safety guidance.
The network specialist will be required to have advanced programming computer skills and knowledge of various control systems, including ALC, Siemens, and Johnson Controls, managing and using control systems.
A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
