JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Department of Architecture in the Stuckeman School in the College of Arts & Architecture at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking applications for a tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of Fall 2025. The Department of Architecture is defined by teaching excellence in graduate and undergraduate programs, the delivery of National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) accredited curricula and strong record of faculty research and creative practice in four research clusters (Material Matters, Design Computing, Sustainability, and Culture, Society, Space).The Department of Architecture is housed in the Stuckeman School, a thriving inter-disciplinary research environment for collaborative partners. Three centers for research engaging faculty and graduate students — the Hamer Center for Community Design, the Stuckeman Center for Design Computing, and Ecology + Design — provide a wide range of research opportunities. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of their experience with, and interest in, contributing to these goals.Position Summary:We are seeking a dynamic and innovative architecture faculty member to join our department, with a focus on building design. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in architectural practice, a passion for teaching fundamental architectural principles, a commitment to advancing core architectural design pedagogy, and a willingness to work across disciplines. A professional license to practice architecture and a PhD are preferred, and the candidate should possess a creative and curious mindset. This role demands an enthusiastic individual ready to engage students in foundational design concepts while contributing to the development of our Architecture curricula. The successful candidate will demonstrate robust practice experience and a drive to inspire the next generation of architects. Candidates are expected to clearly describe where their research and creative practice fits into the department research clusters. Since most research projects are collaborative and interdisciplinary, successful applicants may contribute to multiple research clusters with one as primary.
