JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Restorative Justice Initiative (RJI) at Penn State is seeking a dedicated law student to join our team for the 2024-25 academic year. This is an excellent opportunity to engage in meaningful law-related research and policy work, particularly focusing on higher education policy, criminal justice reform, and higher education in prison. Your work will directly contribute to the support and advancement of justice-impacted individuals and various RJI programs. You will work 10-20 hours in person at the University Park College of Education. Primary Responsibilities:

Assist with research on law-related topics, higher education policy, and criminal justice reform.

Support RJI's policy efforts across the University and Commonwealth, and collaborate with the Office of Government and Community Relations, to remove barriers to educational access.

Participate in research projects that involve justice-impacted individuals and conduct research and advocacy to support legislative change, enabling incarcerated students to access state aid.

Provide support for RJI’s programs, including the prison education program, Justice Education Month, and reading group.

Collaborate on the grants focused on policy research to identify barriers to prison education and support RJI’s Rising Scholars College Pathway Program.

Assist in the efforts of the Pennsylvania Consortium for Higher Education in Prison (PA CHEP) to address policy changes in education, restorative justice, rehabilitation, and reentry.

Develop creative solutions and strategies to close the funding gap for prison education programs in Pennsylvania.

Ideal Candidates:

Law students with a strong interest in higher education policy, criminal justice reform, and restorative justice.

Excellent research and writing skills.

Be passionate about supporting justice-impacted individuals and advancing equity in education.

Be able to work collaboratively with a diverse team of faculty, researchers, and policymakers.
