Penn State University Librariesseeks an Information Resources and Services Support Specialist who will be working for both the Acquisitions and the Cataloging and Metadata Services Departments.This position works under general supervision to complete tasks and projects of a functional nature demonstrating knowledge about internal procedures. Acquisitions responsibilities include utilizing SirsiDynix WorkFlows to create, modify, and receive order records.Cataloging responsibilities include copy cataloging of print monographic titles. Working in a team environment, the successful candidate will follow local and national cataloging guidelines. They will search local, national and international databases for matching cataloging copy, verify descriptive elements and access points, make appropriate modifications, and import records into SirsiDynix WorkFlows.Regular use of Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Sharepoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel.This position will need to demonstrate the ability to use analytical skills to solve both routine and more complex problems, following available procedures and guidelines.The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate accuracy, consistency and dependability in performing work assignments and in following detailed procedures, and will have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.Communication will generally take place internally within the Libraries, but it will also include regular communication with outside vendors for ordering and claiming purposes. Preferred qualifications include bibliographic knowledge of at least one non-English language and experience in library procedures.Typical duties include:
Creation of orders to sent to specified vendors dealing with rush materials
Receive items in system
Copy catalog receipts.
Edit acquisition and catalog records based on established procedures.
Copy catalog non-rush backlogged items.Education and Experience:This position typically requires a bachelor's degree plus one year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a library setting.Strong attention to detail required. Ideal candidate will possess skills in time management, facilitation, creative thinking, effective problem-solving, and good interpersonal communications. Knowledge of publisher industry, library acquisitions and/or other library experience preferred.The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
