ARL's purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). This position will assist in the design, development, and testing of novel energy system prototypes to support ARL, Navy and DoD needsARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply.You will:Design and analyze mechanical, fluid-flow, and heat transfer components for thermal power plants and other energy conversion systems.Assist with component and subsystem test planning, test execution, and test documentation.This position can be filled at multiple levels.Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related discipline; 2+ years related experience. Additional experience and/or education are required for higher level positions.Required skills/experience areas include:A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or similar engineering disciplineExperience with one or more of the following is highly desired: material selection, structural design, gears, bearings, pumping elements, heat exchangers, fluid delivery systems, thermal cycles and combustionPossess the ability to express yourself and ideas successfully to others in order to provide understandingPast success in providing ideas in written form for clear comprehension to an audience.Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance for access to classified information and be subject to a government background investigationPreferred skills/experience areas include:Proficiency with solid-modeling CAD software (Unigraphics/Seimens NX preferred)Knowledge of standard drafting practices including geometric tolerancesYour working location will be fully on-site, located in State College, PA.ARL at Penn State is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University center of excellence in defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas.You will be subject to a government security investigation, and you must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
