The data sets are large so students will be expected to develop some skills in unix computing to organize and process the data. The data analysis will require students to develop a basic understanding of seismic wave excitation and propagation and elementary skills in quantitative reasoning. The analysis tools (already developed) are a combination of software written in FORTRAN, C, Python, Matlab, and Mathematica. Applicants are not expected to know any of those tools but be willing to learn to use the already-developed software. The data are rich in signals from day-to-day mine operations as well as subsurface explosions. Work will be performed using computation facilities in the Deike Building.
