THE POSITIONThe Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution at Chester is seeking a Utility Plant Operator with exceptional work ethic and experience with the safe operation of a utility plant. This position gives you the opportunity to maintain the operability of the steam boilers, heating boilers, chilled water system(s), cooling tower(s), and standby generators at the institution. DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will be responsible for overseeing inmate activities while upholding stringent security measures. You will be tasked with ensuring that all operations are conducted in accordance with established safety protocols, particularly in relation to boiler operations and the generation of medium pressure steam. This steam is essential for providing heat and hot water to meet the various institutional requirements. Your responsibilities would be critical in maintaining both the safety of the facility and the efficiency of its utility operations. Full-time employment, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
Work hours are to be determined due to operational needs 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Shift Differential: An employee whose work shift consisting of 7.5 or 8 work hours which begins at or after 8:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m. will be paid a shift differential of $1.15 per hour for all such hours worked on that shift. An employee whose work shift consisting of 7.5 or 8 work hours which begins at or after 12:00 noon and before 8:00 p.m. will be paid a shift differential of $1.25 per hour for all such hours worked on that shift.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
