THE POSITIONThe Department of General Services is looking for an ambitious Electrician Trainee! We will provide you will the necessary training to learn how to perform a variety of skilled duties relating to the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring, electrical distribution equipment, and electrical components. This position will work within the Capitol Complex, Harrisburg Annex, Reading Office Building, Scranton Office Building, and outlying Harrisburg buildings under the direction of a licensed electrician. DESCRIPTION OF WORKAs an Electrical Trainee, you will participate in a 4-year in-house training program that provides you with the necessary skills to successfully install and maintain electrical items. Our program is designed for you to gain a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code standards where you will learn to identify, pinpoint, and correct power failures and short circuits. In this role, you will become responsible for effective utilization of volt-ohm-milliamp meter, amprobe, megger, as well as other electrical meters and devices in day-to-day performance of assigned duties. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from licensed electricians and supervisors to accomplish assigned tasks. Work includes selecting proper tools, equipment, and supplies, and coordinating with supervisors on the appropriate course of action required for each assignment, always being aware of job hazards and safety measures. Full-time employment.
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE - Required to work during emergencies and office closings.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or electronics, and six months experience in the installation, repair, or maintenance of electrical systems, components, and equipment;or
Completion of a two-year, post-secondary technical training program in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or electronics;or
An associate’s degree in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or electronics;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirement:
