THE POSITIONThe Department of Environmental Protection is on the lookout for a qualified Environmental Chemist 2 to join their team. This role involves performing advanced air toxics sampling studies utilizing automated gas chromatography systems. Candidates should possess the skills necessary to operate Auto GC and various other instruments at field monitoring locations. Do not miss the opportunity to apply today! DESCRIPTION OF WORKIn this role, you will act as a technical authority in the field of air monitoring, ensuring that the established rules, regulations, and policies related to the air monitoring program, as well as any specialized sampling studies, are consistently enforced throughout the state. You will be tasked with conducting initial quality control assessments and addressing any discrepancies in the data. Additionally, you will identify and rectify any operational challenges or malfunctions associated with the gas chromatography (GC) system. Your responsibilities will also include designing and assessing optimal air sampling methodologies for various hazardous substances, leveraging your expertise in sampling strategies, site selection criteria, and the limitations inherent to sampling equipment. Collaboration with colleagues will be essential as you engage in data analysis, risk assessment, report composition, and the effective presentation of findings. Interested in learning more? Full-time employment

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Two years of experience as an Environmental Chemist 1; or

Eight years of professional chemical analytical experience which included analyzing a wide variety of chemicals and interpreting the analysis; or

Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

This particular position also requires possession of a valid PA Class C non-commercial driver's license.
