THE POSITIONAre you ready to join the Department of Transportation, Engineering District 12-0, a renowned organization responsible for maintaining Pennsylvania's highways. We are currently looking for dedicated individuals to fill full-time Transportation Technician positions. Apply now and be a part of making a difference in our transportation system! DESCRIPTION OF WORKThis role is an entry-level technical position in transportation construction inspection within the Department of Transportation (DOT). In this position, you will carry out technical duties related to construction project and materials inspection, as well as performing various computations during the inspection process. Your work will involve adhering to established methods and procedures, utilizing specialized skills and techniques, and conducting inspections of routine phases of highway construction or operations and materials at large materials producing plants. Additionally, you will be responsible for inspecting all phases of transportation construction work, assisting with various tasks such as checking grades, elevations, structure stake-out, and roadway stake-out with the contractor/surveyor, and inspecting the placement of different materials. You will also provide compaction testing of sub-surface strata, soils, aggregate, and other applicable materials using a visual non-movement method. Additionally, you will interact with various department staff, other federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the general public to ensure effective project administration. Furthermore, you will be responsible for completing and performing various project documentation tasks manually or electronically, such as master diary entries, mathematical calculations, item quantity estimates, project cost estimates, work orders, time extensions, and resolving field problems that may arise. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment

Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch

Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work;or

One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics;or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

This particular position also requires possession of a valid Non-commercial Class C Driver’s License.
