If the role of environmental engineering trainee is filled, the selected candidate will undergo a comprehensive 12-month training program. This period will involve close supervision of the trainee's responsibilities, alongside structured formal training and practical on-the-job experience aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills to fulfill the duties of an Environmental Engineering Specialist and to effectively advance the goals of the Clean Water Program.The trainee will be tasked with evaluating applications for National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permits mandated by the Clean Water Act (CWA) for the discharge of treated wastewater into Pennsylvania's waterways. Additionally, they will be responsible for assessing plans and specifications submitted by applicants seeking permits under the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law. This includes reviewing applications for significant infrastructure projects such as large sewer systems, pump stations, force mains, sewage treatment facilities, and industrial waste treatment plants.Furthermore, the trainee will play a crucial role in communicating the Department's policies through direct interactions and phone consultations. This will involve providing information regarding permits, stormwater management, combined sewer overflows, fundamental principles of whole effluent toxicity testing, the total residual chlorine policy, water quality standards, various general permits, special protection water procedures, the toxics strategy, and all other relevant policies and procedures currently in effect or assigned to the permits section.Interested in learning more? Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes Barre.
Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $64,861 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITYQUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience in environmental engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
A bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering.
Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
