JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Nittany Success Center at Penn State York invites applicants for the opening of part-time Academic Success Coach (ASC). This opportunity will directly serve students by offering them key information and strategies to identify, manage, and reach their goals.The ASC builds a proactive relationship with each student to provide structure, support, and feedback. The successful applicant will empower students to identify and achieve their educational, personal, and professional goals through guided coaching sessions and by connecting them with resources within and beyond the Nittany Success Center. They work collaboratively with students to identify their strengths, challenges, and learning preferences and develop effective strategies to overcome obstacles. The ASC fosters a supportive and positive learning environment that promotes motivation, accountability, and success while focusing on time management, organizational skills, self-regulation, and self-efficacy.Requirements and QualificationsThe Nittany Success Center is looking for a candidate who is:
Patient, understanding, and passionate about helping students improve and grow.
Adaptive and able to cater their coaching methods to the learning style of each student.
An excellent communicator, capable of providing feedback and advice to students to help them create an individualized plan for success while monitoring and adjusting that plan when necessary.
Motivational and able to inspire students and help them build self-confidence.
Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to help students develop their own time-management skills.
Collaborative in their work with both students and colleagues.
Empathic in understanding and addressing students’ frustrations and anxieties.
Excited to deliver workshops to students on study skills, time-management, and test-taking strategies.
Academic Success Coach Requirements:
Associate degree or beyond in education or related field.
A strong desire to motivate and help students succeed.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Exceptional attitude and work-ethic.
Willingness to collaborate and build positive rapport with students.
Detail oriented and possessing strong time-management and problem-solving skills.
Ability to develop and monitor personalized plans for students.
Experience working with older students preferred.
