The Jewish Community Day School of RI, a progressive and pluralistic elementary school, seeks two part-time classroom teachers (4th and 5th grade respectively) for the 2019-20 school year. Both positions are approximately 60% time. Our school offers a warm and supportive environment for educators and students alike! We seek to foster a love of learning through the creation of nurturing and meaningful learning experiences. Our teachers are committed to providing children with a firm grounding in the core academic subjects (reading, writing, social studies and math), as well as in values and Jewish history (taught by Jewish Studies teachers). Our program honors authentic intellectual exploration and joyful discovery. Students are challenged to think deeply about concepts and ideas, to make learning personal and relevant, to ask questions and to look for broader truths and understanding. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a student-centered approach to teaching and learning, attention to the whole child, strong differentiation skills, a growth-mindset, and a strong grounding in best practices. Risk-taking, collaboration, a positive community spirit, and strong communication skills are essential characteristics of the candidate.
Additional responsibilities include supporting student wellbeing, partnering with families (including home-visits), assessing and evaluating student progress, providing opportunities for parent education, supporting admissions work, faculty meetings, duties, and school events. Our community is a collaborative environment, and lead teachers plan with their co-teacher in Jewish studies (and other colleagues) to deliver an innovative, thoughtful program. Familiarity with reading and writing workshop, Singapore Math, Responsive Classroom and Positive Discipline is an asset.
