Job DescriptionOracle’s Cloud Infrastructure organization is building new Infrastructure-as-a-Service technologies that operate at high scale in a broadly distributed multi-tenant cloud environment. Our customers run their businesses on our cloud, and our mission is to provide them with best-in-class compute, storage, networking, database, security, and an ever-expanding set of foundational cloud-based services.As an engineer on this new team, you will be involved in building one of the core blocks of OCI next Gen architecture. It will be a high scale, high performance, distributed platform that offers data storage, distribution and caching solutions to OCI services. It will involve working on different technologies such as Oracle DBs, MySQL, Kafka, Hibernate, JDBC, Redis, that can enable scalability and reliability.As part of the founding team of this platform you will be involved in early design discussions, prototype development all the way through implementation and operating the platform. You will collaborate with several architects, domain experts and highly experienced engineers. Post launch, you will participate in enhancing the functionality, operational improvements as well as day-to-day operations of this stack.We’re looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems and highly available services. As a Principal Software Engineer you will lead the software design and development for major components of this platform. You should be both a rock solid coder and a distributed systems generalist , able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems as well as design broad distributed system interactions. You should have experience operating large cloud services and have good familiarity with operational tools. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.Minimum Qualifications (IC5)· BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience· 6+ years of experience shipping services software. 3+ years of technical leadership experience· 5+ years of object oriented programming· Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals. Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.· Knowledge of Internet protocols and standards, including SMTP, REST, SSL and HTTP· Strong understanding of databases, NoSQL systems, storage and distributed persistence technologies.. Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.· Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills.Preferred Qualifications:· Experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.· Strong grasp of Unix-like operating systems· Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure a strong plus.. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
