Description The Grant Accountant is responsible for providing fiscal support on all grants and contracts for Sojourner House. They work with and support the Director of Finance, Executive Director, Senior Director of Grants, Deputy Director of Programs, and other program staff in developing, implementing, and providing ongoing financial oversight to grants management operations, ensuring the appropriate use and accurate reporting of all financial transactions on grants and contracts. The person in this role will also support the overall activities of the Finance Department as needed.The ideal candidate would have experience working with small to medium sized nonprofit organizations, and at a minimum have some grant, governmental contracting or other project accounting experience. They should also understand internal controls and be able to ensure compliance with all controls and accounting policies.PRIMARY JOB DUTIES INCLUDE:Grants Administration Assist with the preparation and monitoring of individual grants and program budgets; Prepare and submit grant invoices; Record grant billings in the accounting software and assist in monitoring open receivables and following up on past due accounts; Ensure all transactions are properly recorded and agree to the grant/contact agreement and deliverable deadlines; Monitor the status of grant funds in accordance with their budget and report on significant variances as appropriate; Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations and analysis for accounts and recommend any correcting or adjusting entries as needed; Manage grant expenditures and prepare financial reports to funding sources; Coordinate the budgeting process and detail for assigned grants. Setup budgets in accounting software and monitor budget activity for grants. Resolve accounting and reporting issues as necessary; prepare monthly budget-versus-actual status reports, identify issues concerns and problems and communicate with the Director of Finance and Executive Director, and Deputy Director of Programs Mange contractor agreements and ensure the terms and conditions of agreements are met and properly documented and communicated.General Accounting As needed assist with accounts payable process, including properly coding to grants or programs, entering into the accounting system, and reconciling accounts Assist with the preparation of work papers and related materials to assist the organization’s independent annual audit; As needed, assist with verifying, tracking, and reconciliation of tenant rent payments and security deposits;● Prepare and record checks for payment of agency expenses;● Prepare and record payments and deposits;● Perform timely and accurate monthly close to facilitate monthly grant reporting and invoicing;● Other related duties as assigned.Qualifications● Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and 2+ years’ experience in accounting roles;● Previous nonprofit federal grants experience is preferred;● Experience with being responsible for the quality and content of financial data and reporting● Excel at details, manage and organize multiple projects, work independently and set priorities● Strong computer literacy; proficient in Excel and the ability to reconcile large transactional files (pivot tables and vlookup experience preferred)● Experience using QuickBooks or other types of accounting software; Requirements Qualifications● Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business and 2+ years’ experience in accounting roles;● Previous nonprofit federal grants experience is preferred;● Experience with being responsible for the quality and content of financial data and reporting● Excel at details, manage and organize multiple projects, work independently and set priorities● Strong computer literacy; proficient in Excel and the ability to reconcile large transactional files (pivot tables and vlookup experience preferred)● Experience using QuickBooks or other types of accounting software;Robert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
