Job Summary: The Newport Restoration Foundation, a non-profit in Newport RI is seeking a Senior Field Carpenter to contribute to the organization’s dynamic and growing Preservation Department that cares for NRF’s collection of 80+ historic properties. This position will oversee NRF’s four field carpenters on the jobsite and work alongside them. The Senior Field Carpenter will be responsible for ensuring efficiency, productivity, and safety on the job site.
Salary Range: $36.00-$40.00 per hour ($74,880-$83,200 annually) based on experience with a great benefit package
Full-time, 40 hours per week Mon-Fri, year round position

Specific Responsibilities:
Oversee NRF’s field carpenters on the job site
Work alongside NRF’s field carpenters to:
o prepare interiors and exteriors;
o perform carpentry repairs including siding, fences, railings, doors, water tables, corner boards, and windows;
o carry out carpentry replacements, dutchman repairs, and/or replications;
o resolve tenant work orders as assigned;
o assist with the installation, removal, and repair of storm windows;
o contribute to vacancy turnovers, which may include clean up, minor interior painting, and other related duties;
o assist with general maintenance and repair when needed;
Participate in conversations regarding scheduling, subcontracting, and safety policies and procedures.
Contribute to NRF’s Trades Training Initiative by supervising and mentoring trainees.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Preservation Crew Supervisor, Director of Preservation, and/or President.
Opportunity for participating in a rotating on-call schedule with stipend.
Minimum Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in general carpentry.
3+ years of experience with personnel and jobsite supervision.
Knowledge of rough framing and finish carpentry.
Skilled in the use of both hand and power tools and possess awareness of the safe operation of all tools.
Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and hazardous materials in order to prevent injuries and accidents and ensure compliance.
Ability to effectively communicate, both verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and in team settings.
Ability to exercise good judgment with a strong attention to detail.
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and dedication.
Must possess the ability to work in all weather conditions.
Must be able to work from extended heights using extension ladders, staging, and lifts.
Must have the ability to lift 50 lbs alone or in concert with others.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and vehicle for commuting to and from job sites.
Speak and take direction in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on historic buildings and/or restoration carpentry.
Experience in training, mentoring, and/or educating beginner tradespeople.
Possess basic carpentry hand tools and willingness to bring them to the job.
Knowledge of Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting protocols.
