Seeking Town of South Kingstown Full Time Passenger Transportation Driver
The Town has an opportunity for an experienced driver to join the Senior Services team. The Senior Transportation Driver, under the direction of the Senior Services Director, is responsible for driving a lift-equipped, 18-passenger mid-sized bus to transport adults to their destinations for the purposes of shopping and other errands, and back home. The position is also responsible for helping senior passengers, including assisting with any packages or bags, while getting onto and off of the van, noting that some program participants may be limited in mobility. The position requires maintaining a courteous and positive rapport with passengers, and being respectful of all program participants while being sensitive to their special needs. The position requires courteous and respectful driving while obeying the rules of the road. The position is responsible for performing daily safety checks of the vehicle, monitoring vehicle performance, maintaining a daily manifest of scheduled trips, preparing monthly reports on ridership, fuel, milage as well as other relevant statistics as required and adhering to the maintenance schedule established for the vehicle, and working cooperatively with maintenance staff of the Town’s Highway Department regarding general upkeep of vehicle.
The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, and have a genuine interest in working with the senior population. Knowledge of local streets and the South Kingstown area, and knowledge of age-related issues of limited ambulation is ideal. The position requires a valid RI Driver’s license with a CDL Class P endorsement. To be considered, candidates must possess this required licensure, have a clean driving record, and successfully pass a mandatory drug test, BCI (background check), and pre-employment physical. This position requires obtaining certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within the first three months of hire, and a basic understanding of first aid. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and two or more years of experience transporting sensitive passengers, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
The starting salary for this full-time 35-hour per week Council 94 position is $23.02 per hour, and after successful completion of a six-month probation, increases to $23.82 per hour. This position will work Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 2:30pm. This position is associated with the Employee Retirement System of Rhode Island Pension Program, which earns up to 12 vacation days, 15 sick days and 3 personal days a year on top of 13 paid holidays as well as offers full medical, vision and dental coverage. This position is also eligible for incentive pay up to an additional $1.40 per hour depending on skills certifications attained in accordance with the C94 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
