Your first Underground project would be in the Newburgh New York area, starting late in 3rd quarter. We are hiring now, and in the interim, we would assign you to other heavy civil projects in the Eastern part of the United States. Our Sr. Safety Specialists are trainers in safety, strong communicators, leaders to guide the team in safety practices and protocol, investigators, auditors, motivators, mentors and relationship builders! We are recognized as a leader in the tunneling industry and our services include TBM Rock, TBM Soft Ground, Sequential Excavation, Drill and Blast, Shaft Excavation, Concrete, Tunnel Rehab, and Numerous Trenchless Methods.LocationOne of the many things that makes Kiewit’s culture unique is that we go where the work is, which exposes your career to abundant opportunities. This project is a Mile underground and will be expected to spend a majority of the shift in this environment.Responsibilities

Assist in planning, organizing, and implementing district Safety Programs at project sites. Implementation would include ensuring all Staff and Craft have a clear understanding of programs. Manage programs on a go forward basis addressing areas of improvement and feedback received.

Understand and be able to explain facts and information related to Kiewit’s Safety Program, Policies and Site-Specific Safety Plans

Plan and conduct safety orientation, other safety trainings, safety tours, workplace audits and incident response as needed.

Coach Site Visitors & Professionals, Foreman and Craft on proper completion of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)

Know Life-Changing Categories, complete Safeguard Assessments and proactively intervene if you see a potential unsafe act

Embody the Kiewit approach to safety, being constantly aware of conditions and work practices, being empowered to stop all unsafe work when needed.

Support development of Safety recognition program. Administer recognition program.

Engage with members of Craft Voice in Safety (CVIS) and participate in weekly meetings

Understands project and type of work to appropriately review hazards and provide feedback to Front Line Supervisors

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Construction, EHS or similar degree program preferred.

Must have successful completion of the 2 or more of the following training courses:

a. Four hour BEDC EHS Standardsb. Thirty- hour OSHA construction safety and health training;c. hazardous waste remediation or forty hour HAZWOPER training;d. Resource Conservation Recovery Act/DOT hazardous waste/manifesting traininge. Confined space training or permitf. BEDC spill prevention and controlg. Control of hazardous energy sources (lockout/tagout);

Training in hazards such as storm water control, scaffolding, cranes, excavation, underground construction, drill and shoot, highly desired

Must have extensive experience with hazard identification, evaluation and controls, and be knowledgeable of EHS requirements set forth by governing laws, rules and regulations as well as Best Management Practices.

Must have completed OSHA 10-Hour construction training or OSHA 30 hour training within the last five (5) years.

Experience working with underground projects not required, but must be willing and able to work underground.

Experience providing safety training to others, and developing safe work plans is required on a construction site

Experience with job hazard recognition, record keeping and injury management experience required

Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments, around large, moving equipment and willingness to work underground and on rotating shifts that may include nights and weekends.

Willingness to relocate to project sites across the USA for an extended period of time.

Ability to demonstrate independent professional judgement given limited supervision

Strong communication skills, strong work ethics and able to work independently and as part of a team.
