The Center for African Immigrants and Refugee Organization (CAIRO) is works to increase equity and social justice for African refugees and immigrant children, youth and families through programs, services, community organizing and collaborative leadership that create opportunities for them to thrive. To accomplish our goals we offer a wide variety of services, including pre-K education, K-12 student support & counceling, community health, and job training. Position Overview

CAIRO is looking for an experienced HR professional who loves to help individuals & teams improve their work and ability to help the communities we serve. The person hired for this position will be our first team member dedicated to HR administration, staff training & support. This position requires someone who is "entrepreneurial" and able to thrive in a quickly evolving work environment. We need someone who can develop & implement systems to help us continue to grow our programs and expand our services, and provide a rock solid foundation for our staff to do their work. DUTIESStaff & Workplace DevelopmentIdentify and/or organize appropriate training and development opportunities for staff across Oregon and MinnesotaDesign and apply assessment tools to measure training effectiveness Track and report on training methodologies and outcomesHandle logistics for training activities including venues and equipment leasesWork with program managers in ensuring training needs and costs stay within planned budgetsPromote a culture of reflection, learning, and data-based decision making throughout the organizationOrganizational culture self-assessments & improvement plansEmployee 1:1s, listening sessions, & forumsManage staff assessment process, helping managers provide constructive feedback and identify broader weaknesses within the organizationHR AdministrationKeep company handbook accessible, organized, updated, and in compliance with all applicable laws & regulationsBenefits & payroll administrationJob postings & help with staff recruitmentEnsure compliance with equal opportunity hiring practicesApprove & send job offersMaintain & manage employee onboarding & offboarding checklistsMaintain & implement employee compensation & benefits schedulesMediate staff conflicts in an unbiased and professional mannerRecommend & implement changes to streamline & improve HR protocolsSkills & AbilitiesAbility to work with diverse population base and have strong background in working with the African Immigrant population and understanding of the nuances of the cultural values and beliefs of that communityKeep a professional demeanor and maintain supreme discretion at all timesComprehensive understanding of the adult learning principles in training design, presentation, teaching and evaluation methodsAbility to apply effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsDemonstrated project management experienceAbility to thrive in a fast-paced, constantly changing environmentStrong ability to multi-task and deliver on deadlineAble to maintain up-to-date knowledge in area of staff development and practiceStrong organization skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasksProficient in the use of common professional software programs, such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and ZoomStrong organizational, computer, and research skills Ability to write accurately & clearly Ability to multitask and perform under deadlines and changing schedulesEducation & Work ExperienceBachelor’s degree or five years HR experience requiredMinimum of two years years experience in HR requiredHR certifications or other professional development strongly preferredWork EnvironmentFrequent use of keyboard, monitor, mouse, telephone and/or headsetHosts/co-hosts ongoing eventsWalking and Standing long periods of time due to eventsIn-person and online work environmentsInterested in applying?
