Job DescriptionJob DescriptionKLJ Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Field Engineer to provide multi-site / phase technical guidance and inspection for construction projects. This role includes leading and supporting research, concept development, contract administration, and scheduling while ensuring construction projects meet high standards for quality, safety, and compliance. The Senior Field Engineer will prepare detailed reports, develop quality control standards, and collaborate across teams to execute successful project outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesOversee and provide technical support for multi-site project observation, reporting, inspection, and investigation.Lead data collection, analysis, and visualization efforts to support project development.Conduct field engineering, site inspections, and research on existing and proposed infrastructure to ensure compliance.Develop quality control standards, construction inspection plans, and cost estimates for various project phases.Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and vendors to monitor communication and ensure accurate project delivery.Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordinating work on job sites; supervise field operations as assigned.Prepare technical reports and recommendations to improve design or address construction issues.Provide guidance and mentorship to entry-level field engineers.Track project hours, expenses, and assist with project management for small to mid-level projects.Ensure adherence to safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and regulatory requirements.Remain current on field engineering practices and industry standards, making responsible, ethical decisions aligned with KLJ’s policies.QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related discipline.5-7 years of relevant field engineering experience post-education; Professional Engineer License required.Extensive knowledge of field engineering principles, construction standards, and compliance practices.Ability to apply technical calculations, conduct thorough inspections, and develop effective solutions.Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with diverse audiences, both engineering and non-engineering.Proven self-leadership, prioritization, and multi-tasking abilities in dynamic environments.Proficiency with technical writing, project management, spreadsheets, and field engineering software.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to interpret inspection data and recommend solutions.Ability to work independently and provide mentorship and direction to junior team members.Ability to manage flexible schedules tailored to project requirements, including extended work hours if needed.Hours and TravelThis position requires 40+ hours per week, with 50% of time spent in the office and 50% in the field with an increase in fieldwork percentage during construction season Travel is required; a valid driver’s license is essential.Physical RequirementsRegularly required to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.Must use hands to handle tools, reach with arms, and clearly communicate.Physical ability to walk on uneven terrain up to three miles per day, frequently lift up to 50 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.Why KLJ?KLJ Engineering fosters an inclusive, growth-oriented environment with a commitment to safety, quality, and ethical practices.
