DescriptionPiping Engineering & Analysis Synopsis The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline performs evaluations for piping systems in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.7, and other codes as applicable to the specific evaluation being performed. The Piping Engineering & Analysis discipline also performs the following specialty topics.
Vibration monitoring and analysis to evaluate system operational vibrations associated with plant modifications and operating events, and to provide vibration prevention and mitigation solutions and designs.
Evaluation of hydraulic transients, evaluation of piping systems for thermal stratification effects, operability evaluations, and qualification of piping for hydrodynamic loads.
Pipe rupture evaluations, evaluation of pipe wall thinning due to flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) or microbiological induced corrosion (MIC), and pipe flaw evaluations.
Internship Responsibilities
As a Pipe Stress Engineering Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new power plants and/or modifications and upgrades to existing power plant systems, components, and structures. Working under the direction of engineers, this position may offer you the opportunity to gain experience in one or more of the following areas:
Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs
Perform quality reviews of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs
Assist in the review of design drawings and vendor drawings
Directly apply your knowledge of materials, stress analysis, statics, and vibrations
Please note that this internship position does not provide a subsidy for relocation expenses.
QualificationsWe do not sponsor employees for work authorization in the U.S. for this position. Essential skills and experience:
Must have an expected graduation date prior to Summer 2027 with a Bachelor of Science or Master of Science with a major in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Civil Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission‐approved program with a strong academic background and an interest in the behavior of materials, stress analysis, statics, and vibrations.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong PC skills are required.
Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Self-Starter, proactive, able to work independently with minimal direction.
Ability to quickly identify and prioritize issues, create solutions and meet deadlines.
Valued but not required skills and experience:
Previous internship or co‐op experience in an engineering office.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Knowledge of any of the following software: MathCAD, AutoPIPE, PipeStress, or ANSYS.
Demonstrated leadership experience within campus and/or the community.
