Job Title: NIGHT DISPATCHER “ Part-time position

Job Classification: FT, non-exempt

Job Relationships: Reports to Animal Services Administrator.

Job Summary: Under the immediate supervision of the Animal Services Administrator this position provides night radio communication services to the animal services officers regarding animal control within the city limits of Chattanooga. Monitors the officers location and safety while on the call, if safety is compromised or officer requests support, notifies the authorities (Chattanooga Police Department).

Salary: Training - $10.00 (90 days) then $10.25

Part-time position: Schedule “ Five days per week through a rotating schedule with the day time dispatchers. Begins radio contact beginning at 5:30pm and on duty when officer makes contact with them regarding an after-hours call that they are responding to within the City.

Job Duties

1. Dispatch:

ïƒ Responds to radio or telephone calls made by the On Call Officer.

ïƒ Maintains a pleasant, professional attitude with co-workers and other service agencies.

ïƒ Rapidly gather information and data from the officer that is needed to handle the animal issue.

ïƒ Routinely follow up with animal service officers to know their exact location and to reinforce communication as needed. Monitor officers safety and contact the Chattanooga Police Department if requested or warranted.

ïƒ Protect all equipment from food or liquid hazard.

ïƒ Maintain all equipment to the highest level of performance by following procedures for the care of, use of and /or storage of the equipment.

ïƒ Carry out all duties with humanity and professionalism compliant with Center policies and standards.

2. Other duties as assigned by the Animal Services Administrator.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education/Experience: College background preferred. High school diploma is required. Experience in dispatching and animal protection desired. Minimum two years of working with the public.

Knowledge and Skills:

ïƒ Strong interpersonal skills.

ïƒ Must be able to relate and confer with the officers, Executive Director, managers, and associate staff in a positive and constructive way; exercise good judgment when dealing with the public and when making decisions.

ïƒ Ability to handle a heavy workload, while under time pressures, without sensitivity to stress.

ïƒ Pleasant voice, personality, good memory, dependable and cooperative.

ïƒ Good spelling ability and accuracy with numbers and money.

ïƒ Above average skills in reasoning with and using oral and written language.

ïƒ Ability to accurately reason with information derived from the officers.

ïƒ Proven organizational skills and attention to detail (effective record keeping ability).

ïƒ Ability to use sound judgment when dealing with confidential information and the general public.

ïƒ Support the mission of the McKamey Animal Care and Adoption Center and be able to professionally advocate the Centers position on animal issues.

ïƒ Knowledge of animal health, care and welfare and ability to work with animals.

ïƒ Strong animal handling skills.

ïƒ Ability to recognize signs of animal neglect, abuse and cruelty and the ability to handle such issues with professionalism.

ïƒ Computer knowledge, experience with shelter software is helpful. Basic computing skills (Microsoft Windows/Office environment).

ïƒ A can do team player attitude and willingness to go the extra mile.

ïƒ Ability to maintain composure in an often stressful and emotional work environment.

ïƒ Ability to work overtime, if circumstances require and work evenings, weekends or holidays as required.

Other: Must be at least 21 years of age (required for insurance purposes); valid Tennessee Drivers License and insurable driving record.

Work Environment: Office setting, computer use up to 8 hours a day with regular breaks, exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, and animal bites/scratches when handling animals; exposure to cleaning agents; exposure to all weather conditions when outdoors; bending, reaching, walking up to 8 hours a day.

Physical Activities: Occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds with assistance; potential for standing/walking up to eight hours a day; scrubbing kennels and mopping; sitting at a desk; driving a car; performing physical examinations on animals; animal restraint; handling syringes and needles.
