Job Title: Diesel MechanicJob DescriptionWe are seeking an advanced diesel technician to join our team at our LaVergne, TN location. The ideal candidate will be an experienced technician for the second shift (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM) capable of performing diagnoses and repairs on most vehicle components with minimal supervision. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who excels both in skill-level and certifications and can thrive in a team environment.Responsibilities
Diagnose vehicles to determine the cause of malfunctions utilizing 'Complaint, Cause and Corrections' and perform necessary repairs.
Understand and follow OEM & vendor warranty guidelines.
Conduct basic inspections, maintenance, and mechanical repairs per C level qualifier list.
Accurately and efficiently perform work outlined on repair orders and examine assigned vehicles to ensure proper function.
Communicate immediately with the service advisor if the work order needs to be revised or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time frame.
Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order, save and tag parts if under warranty or requested by the customer.
Identify basic chassis/engine/trans components and functions.
Communicate with the parts department to obtain any needed parts.
Understand safety and basic driving skills of trucks in and around the shop area while ensuring customer vehicles are kept clean.
Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs and events and keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals.
Perform other related duties as required.
Essential Skills
Understanding and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
Ability to read service and repair manuals.
Possession of a quality tool set (specialty and larger tools will be supplied by the shop).
Experience with PM services, maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
Basic diagnostic and repair skills for starters, alternators, belts/hoses, oil/fuel leaks, water pumps, and other basic bolt-ons.
Basic clutch R & R + adjust, oil/air leaks, shift tower gasket, coolers, seals, hose & lines.
Experience with ATS: R & R DPF & DOC, clean filters, fix exhaust leaks.
Basic a/c repairs, freon recovery, charge, a/c compressor/lines, batteries, switches, bulbs, wheel seals, mechanical brake repairs, brake inspections, adjustments, s-cams, slack adjusters, basic air system repairs, air lines, air bags, air valve plumbing/replacement.
Suspension diagnostics and repairs, including differential oil leaks, carrier reseal, axle, spring and component replacement, driveshaft/u-joint replacement, basic 5th wheel repairs/adjustments.
Basic interior components, seating, paneling, trim, fridge, blower motor, heater core repairs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Technical Degree preferred
6 months+ experience
CDL – Minimum Class B with Air Brake (the person may pay for CDL certification if needed)
Volvo / Mack Certifications
Cummins Certification
