Education Specialist-Academic Success-240000022YDescriptionJOB SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : The Education Specialist provides direct academic support services to students including the coordination, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of services including counseling and academic coaching to students in the assigned caseload- College of Nursing, which may also include each of the colleges and departments at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Additionally, this position develops and conducts seminars and workshops for bridge / pipeline programs such as the Tennessee Pre-health Scholars Program relating to learning strategies and preparation for entrance exams and the health science curriculum for under-represented students.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :1.Creates an individualized learning strategy enhancement plan for each assigned student, monitors the progress of students, and maintains confidential records of all individual contacts.2.Meets with students individually or in groups to provide academic coaching and academic success programming.3.Assist in the development and implementation of small group workshops on specific learning strategies.4.Works with nursing faculty, administration, staff, and students as part of the College of Nursing early intervention program and in identifying needs.5.Tracks student usage of Academic Success and ensures that appropriate confidential records and monthly and annual reports are maintained.6.Develops learning resource materials and activities specific to the needs of students in the college.7.Assists, as needed and requested, with Campus-Wide Tutoring Program.8.Organizes and implements effective outreach and awareness of Student Success services to the student population.9.Supervises student interns or student workers, as requested.10.Serves as part of an overall academic support team and performs other Student Success duties as needed and requested by the associate director.11.Develops and provides quality materials related to preparing for board or licensure preparation.12.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :EDUCATION : Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)EXPERIENCE : Two (2) years of experience in an academic setting. Experience in the areas of learning, reading and studying styles, tutorial services, career counseling, and / or retention program experience is required.
