We are seeking a professional like you to join our team as a Soybean Breeder who will support the Breeding, Trait Development, and Operations (BTO) function to accomplish commercial variety pipeline development by carrying out critical day to day activities as directed by the business needs.As a Soybean Breeder, you create chemistry by
Developing and oversee Breeding Nursery and Yield Trial plans, strategies, and protocols for the Southern Midwest Maturity Group (MG) IV market. Includes the development of crossing blocks, DNA sampling strategies, and making advancement selections by utilizing the latest biometrics tools to analyze results and make informed data-driven decisions
Working closely with Seed Science Operations (SSO) to help guide and prioritize the efficient execution of all field and seed lab operations activities. Participating in weekly meetings and provide timely and constructive feedback for the continuous improvement of operations
Participating and providing expertise in multiple projects related to Predictive Breeding and other breeding and trait related projects; including but not limited to: genomic selection, digital phenotyping, DNA Sampling Methods, etc. Working with the Crop Technology Innovation function and Trait Development Managers to provide feedback and expertise in breeding and trait development related projects
Working closely with Agronomic Services to align with testing strategy. Participating in field days and other retailer and grower outreach activities
Providing updated and timely forecasts for lab samples and AP testing, help assigned region stay within budget and utilize CapEx allocations to full potential
Maintaining compliance with Stewardship and Regulatory and Safety guidelines for working with regulated and stewarded materials, as established by USDA, EPA, Local Government, and the BASF Stewardship and Regulatory team
If you have
PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Crop Science, or related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of direct experience in a plant breeding program
Strong knowledge and understanding of breeding techniques, germplasm improvement, and trait introgression methodologies with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting established timelines and budgets
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with internal teams, stakeholders, and external partners
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and address challenges in breeding projects
Proven track record working with and managing projects related to cutting edge breeding technologies such as genomic selection, digital phenotyping, genome editing, etc.
Basic understanding of legal, stewardship, regulatory, safety, and security procedures and guidelines related to breeding trials
Ability to travel up to 10%, domestically and internationally
