We want your knowledge and expertise!Job Summary and QualificationsThe Certified Central Sterile Technician is responsible for proper decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization and storage of instrumentation for surgery and outside departments.What you will do in this role:

You will prepare instruments and supplies through cleaning, packing, sterilizing and storing procedures.

You will understand principles of sterilization techniques and operates sterilization equipment.

You will assemble all instruments, trays, and drill drays for operating rooms according to policies and procedures.

You will perform equipment distribution and routing cleaning and maintenance.

You will perform crash cart restocking/exchange.

You will follow Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

What qualifications you will need:

Certification through IAHCSMM or CBSPD required or Certified Surgical Tech.

Experience preferred, but not required.

  • Summary This is a position in Sterile Processing Service (SPS) as a Lead Medical Supply Technician for the Tennessee Valley VA Health Care System, VISN 9, Nashville, TN, Nashville Campus. In this position, the incumbent will provide decontamination, preparation, sterilization, and distribution support of reusable medical devices (RMD) for the medical center. RMD refers to all critical and semi-critical items that are reprocessed through SPS. Responsibilities The incumbent will have knowledge of the processes for RMD as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to maintain current knowledge of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) which document the processes and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RMD appropriate to this position. Physical Requirements: This work is performed in various settings: decontamination, preparation & packaging, clean/sterile supply, and in other services and departments throughout the medical facility/campus. The incumbent may be required to work in areas that are hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted. The employee is subject to the possibility of falls, scrapes, cuts, bruises, and other injuries from reprocessing equipment. The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday. Additionally, frequent bending and lifting of packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). The work requires dexterity and visual acuity for manipulation, disassembly, and assembly of instrumentation. On a regular and recurring basis, the employee alternates between the controlled access areas which include contaminated and sterile/clean environments. The employee is required to wear facility issued scrubs in conjunction with applicable PPE as required by the specific area which includes but is not limited to hair & shoe covers, gowns, gloves, face shields, and safety glasses that can be uncomfortably warm. The employee is subject to burns from accidentally touching hot items and the hazards of working around minute quantities of sterilizing gasses. The employee can be exposed to hazardous chemicals and vapors. The employee can be exposed to slips, trips, and falls related to wet environments. The employee often works around body fluids, mucous, excretions and bits of tissue, some of which may be foul smelling. Strong, unpleasant odors are encountered while decontaminating bloody or grossly contaminated instrumentation or reusable medical devices. The work area is noisy due to the clatter of metal instruments, rumbling of carts, and operation of reprocessing equipment. The Maintenance Tech Specialist is considered the subject matter expert on all aspects of the material handling system and any interconnectedness with communication and support systems in the domiciled facility. The specialist is also responsible for the design and implementation of training and development programs for all site-specific equipment. This may include working with vendors, integrators, manufacturers, installers, and corporate support teams to ensure all necessary resources are available at the local level, that and all technicians have been effectively trained in the maintenance and troubleshooting of all equipment and systems and training of equipment operators in the correct use of the material handling system when necessary.
