LPN Medical Surgical Nights

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care. The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and Physician. He/She applies the nursing process to follow the plan of care for patients, including patient and family education and continuum of care planning. The Licensed Practical Nurse must possess good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients and families. He/She works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team to ensure quality care is delivered.Essential Functions Providing nursing care appropriate to the condition and needs of the patient.

Consulting and collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide care to patients.

Following the patient plan of care and updating the plan of care as necessary.

Administering medications and treatments within the scope of practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Recording patient care activities including assessment, reassessment, and ongoing treatment notes within the patient's medical record.

Using a variety of computer systems

Operating medical equipment used in the care of the patient.

Providing patient and family education related to treatment, diagnosis, medications, discharge and self-care.

Providing patient care following nursing standards of care in a manner that promotes excellent outcomes, avoids harm to patients and promotes health and healing.

Unit specific duties as assigned.Organizational Expectations Actively participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Board Activities, Executive Patient Safety Rounds and reporting of unanticipated and unintended patient events regardless of whether there is harm.Consistent use of AIDET & 5 P's

High School diploma or equivalent.

Completion of a state-approved training program at technical schools or community college.

Active Tennessee License or obtain within 90 days from date of hire.Required Skills

Certifications:

Basic Life Support (BLS) - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.

STABLE - current or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.

PEARS - must obtain within 6 months from date of hire.

IV Competency preferred with intent to obtain within 1 year from date of hire.

Handle with Care preferred.Required Skills

Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to work with multiple computer systems.

Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English

Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for services provided.
