Farm Hand/Property Manager (Limestone)

Vacancy expired!

Farming: 70 acres of the property are in hay producing 300-400 round bales of hay per year, so applicant should be familiar with tractor operation and hay farming. 70 horsepower tractor and all hay equipment are new within the last 5 years and well maintained. In addition to cutting, teddering, raking and baling hay, bales must be moved on the farm, stacked and tarped. Applicant would also be available to coordinate with hay buyers on scheduled pickup and able to load bales onto trailers.

Mowing: Several acres are to be mowed with a zero-turn, industrial lawn mower which the applicant should be able to operate and keep up on maintenance. A string trimmer is used for border and fence work. Edges of hay fields are mowed using the tractor and a 10’ bushhog.

Property Management: RTV vehicle is available for use and groundswork on the farm as well as edge spraying for weeds. Applicant should be familiar with and able to use a 75 horsepower compact track loader with implements such as hole drill, 6’ brush hog, grapple, bucket, etc. Some of the farm is wooded, requiring tree work (20” chainsaw, 36” chainsaw, limbing saw) or felling trees. Trees are processed for fire wood used on the farm with a hydraulic log splitter. Driveways will need to be surfaced when necessary using a landplane behind the tractor.

Equipment: Applicant should be able to keep maintenance schedule on equipment, able to change fluids, sharpen blades, keep equipment clean, etc. All hand, power and pneumatic tools are provided and available for use.

Animals: Two horses are resident on the farm, which would require minimal maintenance by dropping a bale, scattering piles via RTV, checking the run-in’s and keeping their water filled. A small flock (1 rooster, 9 hens) of free-range chickens requires minimal watering, checking, cleaning the coop and moving the chicken coop and electric fence once in a while.

Seasonal work: Pressure washing buildings, painting sheds/small cabin, cleaning gutters, and other small handi-work.

Requirements: Clear criminal background check. Potential random drug testing. This is a full-time job, so applicant should be willing to keep a 8-5 weekday schedule, but flexible based on farming requirements like finishing a hay field before the rain comes, etc. This is a family farm, so we do expect applicants to respect our privacy and to be courteous and respectful to us as well as to hay buyers. This is not a seasonal job, as there is plenty to do on the farm when not cutting hay, nor is this a short-term gig, as we would like find someone to help on the farm for years to come and do not want to frequently turn over workers. Our last farm hand worked with us for five years.
