This is a part-time, remote, contract position. If you cannot demonstrate in your communications that you have three (3) years of hands-on not-for-profit accounting and/or bookkeeping experience, you will not be considered for this position.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Not-for-Profit Accountant & Bookkeeper to manage financial transactions, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit accounting, financial reporting, and bookkeeping practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and receivable.
Prepare and process payroll, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and nonprofit guidelines.
Reconcile bank and credit card statements on a monthly basis.
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial statements, and grant reports.
Monitor and manage restricted and unrestricted funds according to donor specifications.
Prepare and file tax forms, including Form 990 and other necessary compliance documents.
Generate financial reports for management, board meetings, and grant applications.
Support the annual audit process by preparing required documentation and liaising with auditors.
Ensure compliance with financial policies, GAAP standards, and nonprofit accounting best practices.
Work closely with program managers to track expenses and allocate costs appropriately.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or equivalent certification is a plus).
Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping in a nonprofit environment.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks nonprofit accounting platform).
Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, fund accounting, and grant reporting.
Knowledge of IRS regulations, GAAP, and compliance requirements for not-for-profit organizations.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with donor management software and grant tracking systems.
Familiarity with financial reporting for government and foundation grants.
Previous experience working in a nonprofit organization.
Hourly rate based on experience but pay is starting at $20 per hour.
