TITLE: Assistant Teacher

COMPENSATION: Starts at $17/hr + $300 HIRING BONUS (new hires only, paid out after 90-day probationary period)

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm with 1 hour lunch break

REPORTS TO: Director

Job Description:

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for working cooperatively with Lead Teachers to support the learning environment, curriculum implementation and assessments, supporting and encouraging children in their daily activities and routines, promoting their growth and development, and strengthening their confidence and self-esteem.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

1+ years of Childcare experience

CPR and First Aid Certified (will be provided), hiring subject to Child Care Licensing

Background check and FBI fingerprinting eligibility

30 hours of annual childcare training per year will be required

Responsibilities & Duties:

Opening/Closing Duties, depending on schedule

Meet children and families cordially, addressing any parent concerns as they arrive

Maintain a safe and clean classroom

Be familiar with Child Care Regulation Minimum Standards and Accreditation Criteria for Texas Rising Star

Assist with activities throughout the day

Guide and discipline children according to center’s policies, in a positive and encouraging way, promoting their self-esteem, and supporting their healthy social-emotional development

Perform disinfecting & hygiene steps as posted

Always supervise children, requiring a designated floater to release needed breaks

Be familiar with and able to fill out all forms used in the classroom: lesson plans, incident and illness reports, permission to administer medicine, and children assessment

Keep accurate count of children and relay that information at any requested time, ensuring ratios are maintained

Keep track of supplies needed for each child and inform parents as needed

Provide a daily individual report to parents

Share responsibilities and daily duties with Lead Teacher, such as children's hygiene, feeding/supervising meals, plan and supervise activities, etc.

Maintain a good rapport with families, responding to their inquiries and requests timely, and reporting or consulting with Director as needed

Stay with children at pick-up times if parents are running late – a fee of $1 per minute late might be charged and should be paid in cash by the parent to the teacher in charge

Report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect as mandated by Child Protective Service

Limit the use of cell phones to a minimum or in case of emergency, require a floater to supervise the room to answer call

Perform fire and storm drills as required by state laws

Help and support Lead Teacher with special celebrations and classroom parties

Stand for 7 or more hours at a time.

Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse, and similar machines.

Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as bending, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and handling of equipment.

Ability to lift/carry, up to approximately 50 pounds occasionally may be required.

Ability to travel by car to/from LifeFamily Learning Center.

Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing/walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more).

Visual abilities required.
