We are looking for a reliable employee for one of our Nurseys in North Austin! We sell various equipment, trees, shrubs, flowering plants, and palms. The nursery worker is to take care of all aspects of the daily operation and needs to report to the nursery owners. Duties & Responsibilities to oversee the cultivation and well being of plants needs to plant, spray, weed, fertilize, and water plants, use gardening tools to rotate plants in the nursery, being sure the old plants are being sold first to be sure the nursery and walking areas are clean and cleared of weeds, tools and equipment at all times maintain the irrigation system to be sure to replace plants that are sold at the entrance to the nursery inter act with customers, recommend which plants and trees would suit there landscaping and gardening needs to give advice on plants diseases and other areas of plant care like how the use fertilizer, weed control etc. To be sure to charge the customer invoices are correctly and completely filled out with prices, full name, address, telephone numbers to be sure to have all tools and equipment are placed back in there designated area each day

Purpose

No plant knowledge or previous nursery experience is required, but the person who fills this position should be eager to follow the direction of our Horticulture staff, have good customer service, and enjoy working outside.

Responsibilities

- To oversee the cultivation and wellbeing of plants.

- needs to plant, spray, weed, fertilize, and water plants, use gardening tools.

- to rotate plants in the nursery, being sure the old plants are being sold first.

-To be sure the nursery and walking areas are clean and cleared of weeds, tools, and equipment at all times.

-Transferring guest purchases from the nursery to a designated pick-up area.

-Loading and unloading plants from vehicles.

-Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisors.

-Watering and weeding containerized stock and plant sale inventory.

Required Qualifications

Good customer service skills and attention to safety required.

Must have good manual dexterity, be able to lift up to 30 pounds, and have stamina to carry plants short distances throughout the shift.

Must be able to work quickly.

Working Conditions

Must be able and willing to work outdoors in all types of weather, including cold, heat and light rain.

May be exposed to hazardous wildlife, dust, fumes, smoke and loud noises.

Crouching, kneeling, twisting, lifting and carrying items on uneven ground.

Work Shift

Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM -4:00PM

Employment Eligibility:

Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers. Staff who are promotion/transfer eligible may apply for positions without supervisor approval.

Background Checks:

A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s) under consideration for this position.

Employment Eligibility Verification:

If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 form. You will be required to present acceptable and original documents to prove your identity and authorization to work in the United States. Documents need to be presented no later than the third day of employment. Failure to do so will result in loss of employment at the university.
