PC Build Technician/Assembler

A PC Build Technician/Assembler constructs, tests, and troubleshoots desktop computers from components, installing OS/software, ensuring quality, and managing inventory, often requiring technical aptitude, attention to detail, and sometimes certifications (like CompTIA A+), working for OEMs, boutique builders, or repair shops, with paths ranging from repetitive tasks to complex custom builds.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly: Physically connecting components (motherboard, CPU, RAM, storage, GPU, etc.).

Software Installation: Loading operating systems (Windows, Linux), drivers, and applications.

Testing & Quality Control: Running diagnostics to identify and fix faults, ensuring functionality.

Troubleshooting: Diagnosing hardware/software issues in built or returned PCs.

Inventory Management: Tracking parts and maintaining stock levels for builds.

Client Interaction (Sometimes): Assessing customer needs for custom builds.

Skills & Qualifications

Technical: Strong understanding of PC hardware, assembly processes, and basic networking.

Soft Skills: Meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving, patience.

Education/Certifications: High school diploma often sufficient; CompTIA A+, MCP can help; degrees in CS/Engineering beneficial for higher roles.
