Electrical Apprentice

Job Summary

The Electrical Apprentice helps the Supervising Electrician with their tasks, following the

instructions they receive. This role provides on-the-job learning under the supervision of an

Electrician, including how to diagnose and repair electrical problems on residential job sites, and

how to install new electrical systems, including laying wires and assembling various components

needed for the job.

Duties and Responsibilities

● Work with, assist, and learn from the Supervising Electrician; follow instructions and

complete assigned duties

● Learn to anticipate job site needs; fulfill them quickly, efficiently, and effectively

● Assist in diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and assembling electrical components

and systems; ensure all items are operating safely and properly

● Install and maintain various electrical wiring systems and equipment

● Learn to interpret electrical blueprints and schematics

● Use measuring equipment, hand tools, and power tools to perform work

● Maintain time & material sheets; assist Supervising Electrician in tracking extras

(additional work completed not in the original scope of work)

● Track stock inventory on trucks; contact Warehouse Assistant/Office for replenishment

● Receive deliveries at job site, check, carry, and deliver to the truck or job site storage

● At the start of each workday, load truck with all tools necessary to complete the job,

unlock job boxes, get needed ladders, etc.

● At the end of each workday, ensure all tools and materials are returned to their proper

place on truck or job site storage, lock job boxes, store ladders, etc.

● When working in the warehouse, assist the Supervising Electrician with any crew-related

tasks first, then assist the Warehouse Assistant/Office where needed

● Prepare and maintain a clean and safe work area at all times

● Maintain positive client and employee relationships; communicate professionally and

effectively

● Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, codes, and applicable regulations

Requirements and Qualifications

● High school diploma or GED certificate

● Experience not required, but preferred

● Completion of electrician training program not required, but preferred

● Strong interest in learning electrical installations and wiring methods

● Ability to diagnose problems using electronic test equipment

● Comfortable using various hand tools and power tools to perform work

● Eagerness to learn electrical schematics and blueprint reading skills

● Ability to learn quickly, follow instructions, and work with minimal direction

● Able and willing to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify

safety risks, and avoid potentially unsafe situations

● Hard worker; motivated self-starter

● Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

● Willingness to accept and learn from feedback

● Maintain a neat and professional appearance

● Punctual and dependable; excellent work ethic

● Must have tools to complete daily tasks (tool list below)

● Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Working Conditions

● Work environment is outdoors and indoors; includes extreme hot/cold temperatures,

low/bright light, excessive/loud noise, wet environments

● Work in confined spaces and areas not well-ventilated, including under houses and in

attics

● Work at heights, including on roofs with varying angles and climbing/using a ladder and

scaffolds

● Physical requirements include but are not limited to climbing, standing, stooping,

squatting, kneeling, bending, lifting and pulling up to 50 pounds

● Standing for prolonged periods of time while performing repetitive actions such as

grasping or pulling

1. Hand Tools: Bullet level, a complete set of nut drivers, claw hammer, 25’ measuring

tape, utility knife, non-contact voltage detector, a multi-meter, and a set of large and

small Allen wrenches. Pliers, including a set of channel lock pliers, 8” diagonal cutters, 8”

needle nose pliers, 9” side cutters and wire strippers. Screwdrivers, including 1 long & 1

short flat tip, #2 Phillips and a swivel screwdriver.

We recommend Klein brand tools.

2. Miscellaneous: Tool box or tool pouch for carrying tools.

3. Power Tools: Cordless drill.

Travel

100% travel is required for this role as work is completed at the client’s location.
