What you will be doing:
Spotting cars on the correct track; move empty cars and build the outbound train
Classification of inbound train
Interaction with class one railroad
Visually inspect rail cars and perform air brakes inspections
Cross train and assist in the different functions performed at the facility
Operate a locomotive -we provide training and certification
Participate in and promote Savage safety program/SHAPS
Requirements of a successful Rail Switchman:
Requires 3-5 years of switching experience.
Perform basic maintenance to rail cars
Active Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC card)
Attend and pass all training associated with job related coursework. This includes but is not limited to: OSHA, HazMat and FRA related courses.
Travel to other sites to assist in switching and training requirements
Willingness to wear required PPE
Work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends
Read, write and understand, and follow written and/or verbal instructions in English
Clear drug / alcohol test / criminal background check
Here are some of the physical requirements of this role:
Work outdoors in all-weather condition in addition to walking, and standing on uneven ballast surfaces for long periods of time
Comfortable with heights
Be able to lift 50 lbs. frequently
