The Ship/Terminal Checker will be responsible for recording cargo movement; discharge, loading and stowage on the vessel and load out and receiving of cargos though the terminal, to and from the customer carrier in a responsible, safe, and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities:
Count, inspect, sort, identify and record storage location of all cargo discharging and/or received from a vessel
Count, insect, sort, identify and record stow location of all cargo stowed or loaded onto a vessel
Load / unloading trucks
Mark and take dimension of cargo
Keep written tallies of records
Maintain records with the use of electronic equipment, (i.e. tablets and scanners)
Requirements:
Two-year (2) years of experience in customer service
Excellent written and communication in English (Spanish is a plus)
High school diploma or equivalent
Must have valid Driver’s License
Must have an active TWIC (Transportation Worker identification Credential)
Reliable transportation to and from work, required
Ability and willingness to work in a team environment/be a team player
Must be willing to travel, as needed
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work outdoors, 100%
Exposed to inclement weather conditions, (i.e., heat, rain and cold, daily)
Work in closed spaces (i.e., warehouse, vessel hatch, etc.)
Capable of walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders up to 100ft high and have fast physical reactions (i.e.,
jump, move)
Ability to work in a noisy environment
