### Job Title: Safety Officer - Trucking Company

Location: Balch Spring, Texas

Department: Safety

Reports To: Operations Manager / General Manager

### Job Summary:

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and compliance of all trucking operations. The role involves enforcing safety regulations, conducting training, inspecting vehicles, and promoting a safe work environment for drivers and staff. The Safety Officer will ensure that the company adheres to federal, state, and local transportation safety regulations, including those outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

### Key Responsibilities:

1. Regulatory Compliance:

- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety laws and regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA standards.

- Maintain accurate records of safety certifications, audits, and inspections.

- Implement and enforce policies and procedures related to safe driving, cargo handling, and vehicle maintenance.

2. Safety Audits & Inspections:

- Conduct regular audits and inspections of trucks, trailers, and other equipment to ensure they meet safety standards.

- Identify safety risks and recommend corrective actions or enhancements.

- Prepare for and assist with external safety audits.

3. Driver Training & Development:

- Organize and conduct safety training programs for drivers, including defensive driving, cargo securement, and accident prevention.

- Train drivers and staff on emergency procedures and the use of safety equipment.

- Conduct post-accident evaluations and recommend training to prevent future incidents.

4. Incident Reporting & Investigation:

- Lead investigations of accidents, injuries, or safety violations, determining root causes, and developing preventative measures.

- Ensure accurate and timely incident reporting in accordance with company and regulatory standards.

5. Monitor Driver Behavior:

- Use telematics and electronic logging devices (ELDs) to monitor driver performance, ensuring compliance with hours-of-service (HOS) regulations.

- Address unsafe driving behaviors and offer corrective guidance as necessary.

6. Emergency Preparedness:

- Develop and maintain emergency response procedures and ensure all drivers and staff are trained accordingly.

- Act as the point of contact for emergency incidents involving company vehicles.

7. Safety Culture Promotion:

- Foster a culture of safety throughout the company by promoting best practices, holding regular safety meetings, and rewarding safe behavior.

- Keep the company updated on new safety protocols and emerging risks in the transportation industry.

8. Reporting:

- Prepare and present safety performance reports to management, highlighting areas for improvement and success.

- Track key safety metrics, such as accident frequency, driver behavior, and regulatory compliance.

### Qualifications:

- Education:

- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).

- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Transportation, or a related field (preferred).

- Experience:

- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a safety-related manager role within the transportation or logistics industry.

- Proven experience working with DOT and FMCSA regulations.

- Certifications:

- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Director of Safety (CDS), or similar safety certifications (preferred).

- First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).

- Skills:

- Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations (DOT, FMCSA, OSHA).

- Excellent communication and training skills.

- Ability to analyze accident reports and recommend preventive measures.

- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.

### Physical Requirements:

- Ability to work in outdoor and indoor environments, including inspecting vehicles in all weather conditions.

- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and conduct inspections of vehicles that may require climbing or working in confined spaces.

### Other Requirements:

- Valid driver’s license (required).

- CDL (Commercial Driver's License) is a plus.

### Working Hours:

- Full-time; may require occasional evening or weekend work based on operational needs.
